Free Henry IV Essays: The Character of Falstaff :: Henry IV Henry V Essays

The Character of Falstaff in Henry IV     The character of Falstaff, in Shakespeares play Henry IV Part One, serves as an emblem of frivolity and carelessness within a world filled with social and political significance. Falstaff scorns the world of politics and moral decisions in favor of brisk from moment to moment. though he dislikes this other world, Falstaff realizes he moldiness sometimes come in contact with it. Falstaffs famous speech in lines 127-139 of Act V shows us how he regards the Princes world of honor and duty. Through this speech, Falstaff places himself firmly out of any moral world concerned with legal expert or honor, instead living for no other reason than life itself. Falstaffs speech comes after the King and Prince Hal decide to war against the army of Hotspur. Though they wait on word from Worcester, the probability of conflict seems high. Falstaff knows that when the battle comes, he is going to be in the middle of it. Shortly before his speec h on the nature of honor, Falstaff shows fear that he might be hurt. In lines 121-2 Falstaff asks Hal to protect him if he should fall during battle. The Princes rejection of the request shows his scorn for Falstaffs desire to passively preserve only his own life. Throughout the last half of the play, as the Prince drifts away from Falstaff, Falstaffs role in the action of the play as a whole diminishes. The importance placed upon the idea of honor allows Hal to assume his rightful position beside the King, while Falstaff dims into the background. Falstaffs idea of honor is directly linked to his smell out of time itself. In the opening lines of his speech, Falstaff says,Tis non due yet I would be loath to pay him before his day. (L. 127-8) In this example, God is being cogitate by Falstaff to someone who has set a schedule determining the time and place of everyones death. For Falstaff, ones role in life is not to stray from the path created by that higher Power. The notion of h onor, as he later describes in this speech, is a belief through which one can wear that natural order. He says,Yea, but how if honor prick me off when I come on? (L. 130) In order for one to gain honor, one must risk ones life. This type of gambling is not for Falstaff, as he decides that his own life is more important than,A word.

Friedman’s Discussion of Globalization and Flattening Essay

Globalization is regarded by its critics as a force which is extending the gap amidst the valets rich and poor. In some ways, this has been true, especially throughout the first decade of the post-Cold War Era. The opening of gateways to the East created a alliance between the embodied partners throughout the globe that concentrated the spoils of free-trade into the hands of the wealthy. But in Thomas Friedmans 2005 meditation on the topic, The World is Flat, there is evidence that in fact, the intend products of globalization such as a greater distribution of knowledge resources and a leveling of the technical playing field be beginning to surface. This last mentioned product of free trade, the leveling nub is that which informs Friedmans title theme. The world has pop off flat by its increasing smallness. The economic, political, cultural and tele-communicative interconnectivity of nations is gradually eroding some of the geographic obstacles to popular progress. The strand s of globalization, the New York Times journalist observes, have contributed to a coarseening of glide path to independent entrepreneurialship and opportunity. Though many of the subjects of the authors abridgment are large American multi-national corporations, there is an evident transition in which knowledge-based internet startup enterprises from across the globe are undermining the more monopolistic proclivities of the American market. In nations such as India and China, American exploitation of lower operational, environmental and labor-oriented costs in the technological sector has caused a proliferation of such resources to the general public. This, in turn, is becoming a hotbed of alternative market action which will ultimately dismantle the superiority of the American parsimoniousness. According to Friedmans analysis, a core harm to the U. S. economy, but a boon to independent operations overseas, has been a disregard for American private conceptions of property rights .From counterfeiting of American name brand consumer goods to pirate telecom infrastructural apparatuses, the bureaucratic vulnerabilities to effective globalization are numerous. Both partners in a free-trade circumstance stand to lose economic opportunity in the presence of such market subversions. Thomas Friedmans text is eye-opening insofar as so many of the matters which he discusses may be directly implicated in the experiences of our quotidian lives. In fact, this is the flattening principle of which the author speaks, dictating that the public experience rather than simply large institutional abstractions are shaping the context in which we live our lives. much(prenominal) is to suggest that the technological, educational, informational and recreational freedoms which have traditionally be reserved for those on the upper echelon of both their domestic setting and international geography are more and more becoming democratic. However, in contrast to Friedmans general tenor of optimism, his sarcasm and hints at the flow rate consequences of globalization for so many individuals. This discussion is a reflection on Friedmans text as informed by my let conception of globalization which brings future opportunity at the expense of current human dignity, personal satisfaction and even American prosperity. Therefore, the discussion will be oriented toward elucidating globalizations internally contradictory nature. Just as it enriches one demographic in a developing nation, it facilitates the targeted abuse of a nonher. Just as it endows us with a heretofore unseen capacity for self-sufficiency, it likewise robs us of the capacity to control the level of satisfaction which we achieve when relating to the commercial world. In the flattening of the global horizon that Friedman lauds as the eventual path to a shared sample of living and prosperity, there is the need for a greater analytical emphasis on the negative forces that are driving individuals to increa singly attempt to find their own pathways to social and commercial interaction. Friedmans discussion, as we will see, is focused on demonstrating the permeation of benefits to the collective world community in free trade. This is quite bearable from a macrolevel standpoint.Indeed, nations engaged in free trade would do well to support one another in a mutuality of benefit. Certainly, as was illustrated by the economic phenomena of the 1990s, the expansion of a single large market through a boom of technological progress will have the effect of disseminating to the rest of the free world. This was certainly proved to be true by the dynamic of that decade, when there was a massive investment in technology, especially in the bubble era, when hundreds of millions of dollars were invested in putting broadband connectivity around the world. (Friedman, 6) The result is what is seen as surfacing today. More than the United States, it is the world community which is producing the knowledge workforce of the future. And though Friedman is forthcoming in making that foreboding case, it is important that we expound upon this subject further in this discussion by acknowledging that globalization and the flattening effect are not of a uniform pattern.Even as the proliferation which the author discusses is taking place, it has done so with a multitude of consequences that can neither said to have been desire nor can be said to have stimulated greater equality. Friedman, whom by his text we may suggest is a supporter of the ultimate purpose of globalization, makes the technological attribution that it was actually the coincidence of the dot-com boom and the Tele confabulations Act of 1996 that launched the fiber-optic bubble. (67) Friedman observes that the collective telecom industry invested roughly 1 trillion dollars in half a decade on wiring the world. (67) The deregulation in the 1996 American domestic legislation, which allowed so many larger companies to enforce ho stile consolidation measures in a vast array of theretofore legally unapproachable markets, would coincide with the unfettered capital investment in global internet penetration that has ultimately elevated private sector rights over public rights while simultaneously helping to bring other nations to an eventually greater infrastructural promotion of internet access than would be found in the United States. In some manner, this is borne out by a pattern with incredibly broad-based implications for American consumer and job markets. Today, we have seen and experience the wholesale transfer of our Customer Service industry to fledgling globalizing economies such as that in India. Here, major computer retailers, cable company floozies, wireless communication device providers, bank/credit cards merchants and virtually every other monopolistic corporate industry in America is forced to maintain its emulous advantages by commissioning outsourced Customer Service agents located in India. It is their charge to replicate the experience of an American mobiliseing a support technician with an intimate relationship with the product in question. This is accomplished with, as Friedman reveals, intensive training in the adoption of linguistic, dialectic and etiquette-related behaviors designed to facilitate comfort for the American caller. The Indian call center operators adopt Western names of their own choosing. The idea, of course, is to make their American or European customers feel more comfortable. (22) Amongst the many indicators that cultural flattening would play a part in this transition of labor, the concept of taking on an Americanized name in the interests of facilitating the core consumer target is not only remarkable but intensely objectionable from the outside perspective, particularly when this outside perspective is informed by the sense of autonomy and individuality typically affiliated with western philosophy. However, for the subjects described in Fried mans book, an aspect of the western philosophy perhaps more indicative of its cultural interest is the economic opportunity afforded to the hundreds of thousands of young Indian post-graduates competing for the chance to root phone calls from Americans concerned with all manner of technical support or target marketing. This relatively low-level and typically micro-managed field in America has become amongst the most competitive entry-level positions in India. And in one sense that Friedman captures in the theoretical framing of his text, this is an opportunity for personal economic mobility which for the young student in India might have been seen as extraordinary and rarified just a decade ago. This may hardly be said to be true today, where 245,000 Indians are answering phones 24 hours a day and charged with responsibility of representing themselves as being located somewhere in the United States. (24)From a personal perspective, this has produced an undreamed of dearth of qualit y service in the United States, where the usability of our products has become increasingly distant from the quality of the Customer Support which we have received. One of the qualities of our technology which Friedman believes has helped to denigrate the relevance of geographical distance to serviceability has been the institution of automated Customer Service. For those of us who have been transferred and given insufficient options for contending with specific categories of problem, this has hardly been an added convenience. And the infallibly polite computerized operator is equally as unflappable or emotionally unresponsive as is the outsourced Customer Service representative. In a particularly telling passage where Friedman observes a woman in an Indian call center as caller after caller hangs up the phone in rage, we can see that there is something about this experience that can be excruciating and even unfair. It may be noted that Friedman does a very effective job at distingu ishing between the economic, the sociological and the technological factors which have rendered our current level of global flatness. He acknowledges that there were world events which would make the type of collaboration now essential between the United States and India a natural matter of happenstance. Friedman describes the so-called Y2K crisis in which it was feared that a lack of programming foresight would result in the incorrect resetting of the worlds computer-based internal clocking mechanisms, creating the likelihood of widespread technical failure throughout the world. Thus, with Y2K bearing down on us, America and India started dating, and that relationship became a huge flattener, because it demo to so many different businesses that the combination of the PC, the Internet, and fiber-optic cables had created the possibility of a whole new for of collaboration horizontal value creation outsourcing. (108) So we mustiness yield to the fact that, truly, globalization can ha rdly be avoided. The scope of consumer need does truly require a greater scope of consumer service, and the Indian economy does have the correct workforce makeup to address this need. But when combined with the expansion of private rights, courtesy of such legislation as the 1996 Act, this has created a forbid sense for the consumer that flattening requires a considerable decline from the experiences to which Americans have grown accustomed. Perhaps the overarching presence in Friedmans text is the intimation that these factors which are impacting our lives and the affecting the demerit of world order are of an inevitable nature. The ten factors which are identified as the flattening mechanisms of the changing globe are largely technological and economic forces with broad social and cultural implications. However, these latter qualities are merely the secondary consequence of a circumstance committed to by former. Such is to say that the proliferation of western culture, though cert ainly not accidental, is merely incidental. Referring once again to the problematic case of outsourcing Customer Support services, we can see that the imposition of American culture is only due to the need to cater to the American consumer. In reality, though Indian culture is threatened by subversion, it is American culture which is being co-opted for reasons having little to do with cultural expression. As a result, the American identity has been trivialized and largely represented as being tantamount to the conveyance of commercial interest. One of the core revelations offered by this text, at least when placed in the context of the general Americans everyday experience, is that the flattening which has occurred must necessarily come at the expense of the Americans staunch sense of individuality and belief in personal entitlement.Works Cited Friedman, T. (2005). The World is Flat A Brief History of the 21st Century. Farrar, Straus and Giroux.

Calls for both sides to show restraint and resume peace talks were issued by the European Union, the OSCE, and the Council of Europe.Georgias explanation of the attack was that they were left with no other options after an increasing number of attacks from separalist in South Ossetia. Historical Fiction Book Report

Furthermore, after almost 30 years of fighting, Apache leader, Greenroom last surrendered with his armed forces to General Nelson Miles. Also during 1886, a massive and destructive hurricane demolished the town of Dianna in the state of Texas. Based on my knowledge of life in 1886, if the story were to take place in in Daly City in 2014, the story would greatly differ. Roads would be evenly and more efficiently paved. Modernized cars would replace horseback transportation. Likewise, farms would be replaced by studier homes, markets, and stores.Ellen Elizabeth Hawkins features as the main character of the story. A motherless twelve-year old, Ellen is adventurous and protective of others. Ellen is spirited and is willing to journey to far off lands. As in the story, because she enjoys an adventure, Ellen sets off into the distance to go rescue her Grandfather who has enigmatically disappeared. Just as her mother, Ellen is protective of animals, family, and all living beings. She trea ts her mare, Detroit with respect and is always concerned of Grandpas safety. However, Ellen may be rebellious at times of suspense. In addition, Grandpa and Detroit, as stated before, are also two important characters of the story. Grandpa, humorous and welcoming, is the only support that is given to Ellen. He has also taught Ellen the hard life as a cowboy and the effort that it may take. Detroit, loyal and obedient, is Allens fierce mare and use of transportation that travels without rest or fear of what is to come. To get the story started, author Kathleen ascribable uses a strong introduction that describes the conflict or situation, an intense drought and its immense heat. She begins by stating the shortage of water and supplies. As said, the central problem consists of a terrific drought that is causing immense heat and water shortage. The farm windmill is broken and the herd of bulls and cows has scattered in search of water. Allens father is out on business and Grandpa is hurt. Ellen is now left alone with her toughest challenge to save the ranch. The central problem is soon resolved with Allens determination and perseverance. The drought finally comes to an end and it begins to rain. Ellen heals Grandpas wounds and returns the Hereford bull after a dangerous aisle. Her father is home safe and Ellen has proved her worth as a cowboy. American Diaries Ellen Elizabeth Hawkins is an evoke and action-packed story. This story is similar to another story I have read, entitled Warriors Fire and Ice because both main characters face tough challenges and fierce conditions. both main characters must also prove their worth in being or becoming something. Both stories are also alike in that they turn out around a journey or conflict to find or save something. Just as in American Diaries

Economics of Education Essay

This compute, critically check up ons the sources of revenue at Kinondoni Municipal along with the budgetary allocation to junior-grade pedagogicsal sector. It provides the study sources of revenue which include Central governance revenue, Basket fund (Donors) and Local government revenue which constitute revenue from city service levy, airscrew tax, advertising and bill boarding fees, compensation revenue, and cost sharing. It identifies that education is the priorities to which the council does consider oft in allocating their finances. The project reveals the background on the system of financing education as an essential and critical kind of investment in developing countries particularly Tanzania. It has shown its significances with respect to running the system (government) in general. The significances give the stand to which the Government should take into setting on allocating funds in secondary educational department.More over the project has identified the object ives for analyzing the sources of revenue and educational budgetary allocation. These objectives induct been stated in such a way that, it shows the directory as guidelines for reaching targeted goal(s) for sustainable increment.Nevertheless, case study method and documentary check out as strong as interview techniques were employed. The data have been analyzed using tables and figures.1.0. Introduction and Background.Kinondoni Municipal is located in Dar es Salaam City in Tanzania. It is skirt by Indian Ocean to North East, Ilala Municipal to the S break throughh, Bagamoyo District to the North, Kibaha District to the West and Kisarawe District to the South West. The Municipal has number of matters and services to be make/ provided to the corporation. Among others being education, health services, road construction and maintenances, water services, urban agriculture, power and energy supply and others of alike. All these services need money to run in effective way so that, t he community members could appreciate the concern of the government for their well-being.The Municipal has vision and Mission which the study was interested with, to check out whether ar just worded or atomic number 18 real in practical terms. The study eyed particularly to its Mission statement Provision of quality services to the community through effective and efficient put on of resources, capacity building, good governance and rule of law hence improve the living standard of people. The project (study) was done at this Municipal to identify the sources of revenue for the Municipal to curter and serve the community effectively and efficiently. Another purpose was to check out, how the Municipal allocate its funds (Revenue) to secondary educational sector.A source of revenue is a critical problem in running several activities to an individual, family, community and national level respectively. Moreover, condescension the scarcity of fund (resources) in servicing the community , there is a problem on proper plans and allocating the present resources in optimal manner. Thus, the wise decisions on how to use the present resources in its scarcity is very important particularly for developing countries like Tanzania.Another aspect towards this study (project) was to determine the way the sources of revenue are collected. On this activity, it is the point at which monitoring of revenue collection should be taken into consideration for effective performance. Furthermore, this exercise needs humanitarian aspiration than personalized essence so that, the fruits will be for the community as large. There are 2 significances of doing this project. First was to determine the sources of revenue to the Municipal in club to understand the position of Municipal and the Government in general in its strengths and weaknesses so as to address recommendations to be taken for better performance in future.Second was to assess the allocation of the funds in secondary education al sector. From this, allocation of fund will realize the choices for most of the councils in Tanzania and the way investment aspects are taken into account especially educational investment, hence improvements to be made in a long run.The objectives of this project were as followsi) To determine the sources of revenue for Kinondoni Municipal.ii) To assess the budget allocation to Secondary educational sector in Kinondoni Municipal. The project presents various literature reviews in respective to the study (project). The literature review is mostly on sources of revenue, financing systems, administration, roles of the state and recommended suggestions.Galabawa (1985, p. 1) claimed that, Tanzanias plan for extending educational opportunities and improving the quality of education are often hampered by the limited resources to educational patience. This realizes that, the problem resources in provision of education in Tanzania is a problem that exists and needs a solution on how to go about in order to reduce the burden from the government to ensure more educational opportunities and improve the quality of education.More emphasis on quality of education has been set forth by Michaelowa. The author tried to identify the areas which need to be checked to ensure that are taken into considerations for the consequences in anyhow. The author argued that, The number of days teachers are absent from school (ABSENCE), and teachers self reported job satisfaction (MOTIVATION) have significant coefficients of the expected negative and positive sign respectively (Michaelowa, 2001, p. 1707).If the education industry is running short of resources to improve access and quality of education, and if the responsible persons needs to be motivated for effective teaching, means this industry need to be financed. The financing can be determined by number of factors as quoted from the article that, The policies of financing education in any country reflect the countrys ideology. Altho ugh Tanzanias education policies emphasized quality of opportunity and access, they also vary from environment prevailing at specific time (Galabawa, 1994, p. 37)This literature review has contributed much on this project since objectives stated can be revealed particularly on sources of revenue. According to Galabawa (2007, p. 3), There are various sources of education revenue. These sources can be shared into four broad categories Fiscal sources ser charges including various forms of cost recovery and cost sharing student loan when constituted as a revolving fund which generates income out of which loans are offered to students and various forms of community contributions. The fiscal sources include general taxes earmarked taxes taxes on With regards to education as an investment, and sources of educational revenue, the government has to play its role for sustainable development Galabawa (2007, p. 2) portrayed that, The price of education can, therefore be influenced by the govern ment decision which impinge on issues of supply of education services the allocation and scattering of resources between distinct levels or distinct courses the choice between different methods of financing education and student support or even between different methods of schooling. Therefore, this clarifies the position of the Government in provision of education in the country to assure access and proper allocation of funds in different sectors. Property salaries and sales and different types of levies. For all matters being discussed concerning sources of revenue, educational revenue, budgetary allocation and the role of the government on educational investments and other sector, to have sustainable implementation of plans and to build capacity on fund management, accountability, effective audit and formula funding to generate consistent and reliable disbursements should be taken into consideration for sustainable development.Besides literature review, case study was employed d uring the project. The study was done in Kinondoni Municipal. Therefore purposeful sampling technique was used. The project had two variables namely, dependent variable which is budget allocation, and independent variable which is source of revenue. With these variables the hypotheses of this project were as follows(i) There is a significant relationship between sources of revenue and budget allocation in secondary educational sector (Alternative hypothesis).(ii) There are no basic criteria guiding for sources of revenue and budget allocation in secondary educational sector (Null hypothesis).Field visit, discussion and interview. The list of tools used to collect information and guide the field interview and discussion were documentary review and Interview. The targeted violence were Municipal economic expert and district secondary educational officer these were obtained using purposeful sampling in order to get correct information. The documentary review involved reviewing various d ocuments concerning sources of revenue and general allocation (budget) of the fund to secondary educational sector. Also an interview was conducted in brief way with the Municipal economist and district secondary educational officer. The interview was basically on the way they get fund for running the Municipal to curter and serve the community. Moreover, the questions on what are the major criteria for allocating the fund and challenges they face on all matters concerning sources of revenue and allocation of fund in general were asked.

Holden’s Trust Issues

Throughout the book pallbearer shows multiple signs of people trying to alleviate him, precisely he ultimately pushes them away. I believe that this stems from his original problem when he lost both of his brothers. He trusted that his family would stay and protect him, but when allele died and D. B. sold out, his parents sent him away. So to Holder, the word trust means betrayal. When Allele passed away, Holder thought that Allele had left him.He knew in his mind that Allele did not die on purpose but Holder could not decide who else to blame. He broke all the windows in the garage Even attempt to break all the windows on the station wagon But his hand was already broken. (Slinger 39) And to literally add insult to injury, the fact that he could no long-lasting put his hand into a fist constantly reminded him of Allies departure. According to Holder, It had not been long after Allies death when D. B. Left. When D. B. Left, to Holder, that was the ultimate betrayal. At the seq uence of the narrative, D.B. Lived out in Hollywood Being a prostitute (2). The one word Holder used the most was probably phony. When his brother sold himself out, Holder probably became furious for leaving and called him a phony. Holders bitterness towards phoniness probably came from the betrayal he received from his brother. But this still did not anger him as practically as the betrayal he received from their parents. Holder believes that his parents hate him because they keep shipping him to different schools after he continues to get kicked out of them.He thinks that they are disappoint and ashamed of him. At the beginning of the story, he predicted that they will be pretty irritated about getting kicked out again since this is the fourth school hes gotten kicked out of (9). He thinks that his parents concord given up on him and Just keep sending him to different schools to keep him out of trouble. Due to his emotional trauma, Holder cannot trust anyone anymore. He tries t o support friends with a lot of people throughout the book, but something always came p that would not allow him to.This probably came from his belief that he will be betrayed and scummy if he got to close. So he tried to be friends, but his subconscious made excuses to push these people away. He begins realizes this at the end of the book when he begins to leave New York, but his sister, Phoebe, tries to go with him. He realizes that him pushing his sister away is Just what his family did to him, and he does not want to scar his sister as well, so he decides to stay. Holders Trust Issues By administer

Dynamics San Andreas Reflection Essay

We just recently had a lesson in Science about earth jars and talk about some stuff until we arrived on how about we give watch the new pictorial matter San Andreas directed by Brad Peyton. So our teacher agreed to our suggestion and we mat excitement because we knew that we will be watching an action-packed movie. I watched the trailer at home again to know what I should express from the movie. And I also felt curious about the San Andreas Fault which will be the main precedent of destruction as what I withstand observed after watching the movie trailer. So the daytime came and we watched the movie. First scene in the movie and some of us were already thrilled as a girl and her dangling car were stuck between two cliffs because of the falling rocks from a mountain. And I also felt a little bit worried for the girl because I dont want a cute girl to die right at the start of the movie P. But then Dwayne Johnson as give upr Ray came to rescue the girl with their helicopter and I felt excitement as they rescue the girl.It was an extreme rescuing scene and some of us, especially the girls shouted while watching the scene. Also one of the intense and jaw-dropping scenes that made us go shouting is when the part where in the film, a previously unknown blur near the Hoover Dam in Nevada shakes and jiggles the San Andreas. The Southern California is rocked by a powerful magnitude-9.1 quake followed by an even stronger magnitude-9.6 in Northern California. As the movie goes, it never failed to entertain us. Also the stories of the characters feature in the movie were really interesting. If I were to put myself in the situation they were in, I might have a very low chance of surviving the disaster. I wouldnt want to experience the pillow slip of catastrophe shown in the movie as well. Maybe the least thing I can do is to be prepared because I know we cant predict or stop inborn disasters and pray to God that He wont let it happen to us, mankind. The San Andr eas has long been considered one of the nigh dangerous earthquake fault and the movie showed us that it really is.

Hcs 301 – Personal Goals

Personal Goals HCS 301 September 25, 2010 Judy Ceppaglia Personal Goals It wasnt that coherent ago that I had those new graduate accommodates hopeless feelings of fear and despair, as whether or not I was eer going to be a competent nurse. Wondering whether I was foral focuss going to feel like I know exactly what I am doing and why. Was I ever going to stop being nervous when starting an IV or inserting a Foley catheter. Was I ever going to handle a full assignment of four patients, in busy Emergency mode (ER), without the help of a preceptor. As fast as those feelings overwhelmed me, they have disappeared. These days, the feelings of fear and despair arent as noticeable. Goal setting plays a prominent role in social-cognitive learning models of academic attainment (Morisano, Hirsh, Peterson, Pihl, & Shore, 2010). When I can accomplish my goals I feel as though the skys the limit. The time has in the end come, for me to reach to the stars and grab one, taking my world by storm . According to Weber, Every goal you set is a life goal, whether its a business goal, a relationship goal, a health goal, a phantasmal goal, or a financial goal, every decision you make every goal you set has a ain consequence. We all know our goals need to be smart goals. Specific, measurable, achievable, results-oriented and time defined (Weber, 2009, para. five seven). sometimes personal and professional goals are very similar and may even become intertwined due the outcomes and decisions do by the individual. A decision made in one area may have set up in another. At present my short professional goal is to become certified in the intromission of external jugular (EJ) IVs.Because of the socio-economic class of patients I manoeuvre with, and the patients presentation with around no peripheral IV access from poor circulation, to uncontrolled illnesses, or IV drug abuse, this adroitness few are certified in. The entire process entails taking home the hospital policy and i ncidental learning packet, taking an in class test and acquiring six chaperoned insertions of EJs with a nurse who is already certified. My plan is to have this goal achieved by January 2011. According to McKay (n. d. ), Short term goals are accessible in one to three years.Short term goals are often a stop along the way to our long term goals (Planning for the future para. 3). My second professional goal being long-term in is to go from a registered nurse (RN) train II to a level III RN. The hospital that I work for offers room for advancement through a three level tier program. Starting with my basic RN license, moving toward level II and then onto level III, each advancement comes through educational and undertake guidelines set in motioned by the hospital and set forth in a hospital policy.Prior to going gumption to school I was able to attain my level II status. However, the takements for a level III require the achievement of a Bachelors degree and certification in a spec ialized field. This fashion acquiring a Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) certificate. I anticipate my graduation from the BSN program to be in May 2012 and then giving me six months to study for and mastering the CEN test. At that time I will obtain an updated copy of the policy and requirements and revisit the application process to becoming a level III RN.According to McKay (n. d. ), Long term goals can take about three to five years to achieve (Planning for the future, para. 3), and with Goal clarity, increases persistence, making individuals less susceptible to the undermining effects of anxiety, disappointment, and frustration (Morisano, et al. 2010, p. 256). In setting personal goals, I that I tend to struggle more with these. Even the simplest of things can be a large blockage to overcome. This leads me to a short-term personal goal of just being able to keep up on the laundry although I am in school. So often the laundry can be one of those things that is considerably over l ooked. In the ancient, I would dedicate one day of the week, usually Sunday to do all of the laundry but that became overwhelming and consumed my entire day, usually resulting in laundry being left in the dryer and a load or two not folded and properly put away. Because of that I at last just slowly stopped doing the laundry until we, were in desperate need of something. I began having feelings of guilt and last I started to try to do a load here and there, but I felt that it was a never-ending battle. For these reasons I want to establish a better relationship with the laundry monster and do at least one load of laundry a day, which includes washing, drying, and putting it away. According to The New York measure Company (2010), Todays preparation determines tomorrows achievement, Author Unknown (Quotations, para. 1). Striving for personal goals assigns meaning, structure and direction to an individuals life (Conrad, Doering, & Exner, 2009.Looking to the future, I believe that to be a serious example for not only my children but my prospective students, I need to lose 55 pounds, and establish the healthier lifestyle I once had, making this my long-term personal goal. In April 2005 I had begun take healthier and exercising that subsequently led to the loss of about 65 pounds. After being pass judgment to the nursing program in August 2007, I slowly lost the energy and time it took to march on eating healthy and exercising, therefore losing those good habits that were adopted as my everyday living and eventually resulted with gaining spur about 50 pounds. In an article written by Wood and Neal (2007) they state, Habits are learned dispositions to repeat past responses. They are triggered by features of the context that have covaried frequently with past performance, including performance locations, preceding actions in a sequence, and particular people. After reading this article I found the solidification that I needed and was reminded that I can accompl ish my goals. Moving forward, I want to have regained my healthier weight and exercise part before the completion of the BSN program. In conclusion, with the establishment of clear, concise and attainable goals the work required to achieve those goals makes them easier to aspire toward. With go on success, motivation, and upward movement toward a persons goals, the less likely they are to become unmotivated, disappointed, and frustrated. sound defined goals appear to help individuals discover and use ever more efficient strategies and modes of thought and cognizance (Morisano, et al. 2010. p. 256) References Conrad, N. , Doering, B.K. , & Exner, C. HRM Analysis Essay

1. Should the concern for women getting down into the dirty treatment tanks contain been a selection issue?Yes, we think the concern for women getting down into the dirty tanks should be a selection issue because depending on the women, some women wouldnt mind doing that kind of crop, but most women would credibly not indirect request to do that job. You keistert discriminate against the women and tell them they shouldnt or cant do this, so this job opportunity should stay open and the women can decide if they indigence to use for that position. If women didnt want to get into the dirty tanks then they should apply for a different department. The managing director should puddle options on the application, such as office work, filing, secretary, etc. so the employee can specify in their application what they would like to apply for. If they would have an issue working with the dirty tanks then they shouldnt apply for that position. The manager should be able to place them somew here else according to their answer in the application. A plentifulness of women would not want to do this job so I think that the people who do work in this department should get paid more than the other employees, it will be more kindly to the applicants, and maybe they can get more women working in that section. It is also looks better for the company if two women and men both work in that department, so it will be a diverse giving pool among Ovania, as well as an equal opportunity for both men and women.2. Would this test outpouring and selection procedure be defensible in court?Yes I think this test stamp battery and selection procedure would be defensible in court. The battery of tests are not to look at previous experience, in which could encourage minorities and women to apply to the new position excluding of their preceding experience. They are also not considering the fact that if someone has a lot of experience in a certain field, should be the ones interviewed fir st, since they want the people with the most talent. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, forbids employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national derivation and Under the Federal Equal Employment Opportunity Laws prohibit precise types of job discrimination in certain workplaces. In this case, they should be treating everyone who applies there equally and giving everyone the uniform opportunities, regardless if they have been with the company before, of if they have seniority. I believe that this company is doing the right thing because if a new employee applies for a job, and they are very skilled and talented, they should get the same opportunity that the employees who have prior experience do. If the company hired all employees that had previous work experience, they would be discriminating against the applicants who put one acrosst. For the applicants who dont have prior knowledge, they are trying to get the opportunity to work at Ovania so the y can get the experience they need for their field of work. It is also a worthy way to have Ovanias reputation stand out, by creating equal opportunity to everyone.

Service quality management

This case understand talks about the many service tonus issues faced by a local tummy transport attach to, SMRT. The company has to still remain functional amidst mass crltlclsrn amongst the public due to unable talk networks, inefficient maintenance and various(a) problems in the superior way. As a newly appointed senior manager, it is imperative that we work towards delivering a high part service to our customers. There argon many tools and quality improvement frameworks that we bear use to improve existing service quality standards. The problems faced by the company start with over 10 breakdowns that hold back a bun in the oven occurred In d span of two years. Due to crying service disruptions, the previous CEO, Ms. Saw Phaik Hwa who has apologized publicly and offered false promises, further causing more service disruptions poignant almost 127,000 passengers including 1000 passengers stranded in each of the four trains that were stalled. Malntenance Issues This Is o ne of the main problems that have impacted the quality of the services provided by SMRT.Various issues such as misalignment of tracks & lack of evacuation nd emergency brake plans have impacted the customers health and have caused some of them a lot of inconvenience and stress There has been atrocious impact on the servicgs productivity due to the same problems as they have not been up to(p) to successfully carry out their promised service. Even when the breakdowns happened, the backup power systems did not turn on and this stir the mint stranded very uncomfortable and claustrophobic. Excuses were given once again to quickly dismiss these accusations.By using Demings 14 Points of perplexity, we could find out the root causes of the problem. 1 . Management Commitment The senior watchfulness had not been able to live up to the promises that they have publicly given mainly due to the Inefficiency of the senior management. Had the senior management a closer involvement In the lo wer-level operations, they might have been able to take suggested actions. 2. Understand superintendence Due to the various problems mentioned above, it was important for the senior managers to gather relevant information regarding the frequently occurring problems. This suggests that the communication networks are not very efficient and this wlll be further discussed later In the report, 3. Improve Constantly The Jepanese have developed d technique called Kdlzen, which means Continuous Improvement. This could be used to ensure that quality standards and customer expectations are met by forever and a day developing all dimensions of the service prov10ea. 4. Institute Iralnlng Atter one 0T tne DreaK00wns, around 60 maintenance staff were deployed to gather information and rectify the problem that had caused a 5 minute disruption in the services. However, their inefficiency to analyze and rectify the root cause of the problem suggests that SMRT need to invest in nurture. . Institute Leadership Leaders should be coaches and mentor staffs rather than checking on them. The senior management has clearly shown a lack in leadership skills as they have only been giving excuses and false promises. Inefficient Communication Networks This is another factor that contributed to the reducing service quality of SMRT. Efficient communication between various levels of the business is very important to run an efficient and successful business.SMRT has been facing various barriers in communicating instructions and kernels from senior management to the operating evels and vice versa. The problems that have been occurring have not been reported justly to the high authorities and hence not been able to receive instructions from the senior management on how to proceed further and improve the quality of the service being provided. Using ISO standards as a benchmark, we can see that SMRT is not being able to maintain high service quality standards.Since ISO is internationally rec ognized, this serves as a suitable benchmark. There are few principles that need to be followed in order to charm their certification 1 . Customer charge SMRT needs to meet the equirements of the customers and exceed their expectations but they have failed to do so. They have not improved their service quality and hence, their customer experience. 2. Leadership As mentioned earlier in the report, the leaders have not been able to achieve the goals set and have disappointed their very enlarged customer base. . Factual approach to decision-making Since the employees are inefficient and have not been able to analyze entropy and information, their supervisors have not been able to suggest proper course of action. 4. System approach to management gibe to this principle, all processes are interrelated. Since there has been a lack of co-ordination amongst the employees of every level, SMRT has not been able to manage their technologically advanced systems. One other instance of lack of a coordinated communication systems was the humiliating and controversial subject template that SMRT sent to its taxi drivers asking them to seize the income opportunity that arose because of the MRT breakdown. The common citizenry has heavily criticized this inappropriate message further contributing to the declining public image of the company. uggested Improvements Using Malcom Balbridge National Quality Awards 7 Criteria of Performance rectitude as the benchmark, there are quite a few improvements that could be suggested. To begin with Leadership impressive leadership brings out the best out of every employee of the firm, since the resignation of the previous CEO, the current CEO entrust take some time to settle into the position and it is important to make sure that he/she receives seasonable communication and proper assistance from other managers. Strategic Planning It was very clear that the previous management have ot defined their future strategies clearly and have not prepared proper contingency plans and this has made life difficult for the customers and the management of SMRT.To ensure that this does not happen in the future, SMRT could conduct a evening gown meeting with all stakeholders to develop a strong and effective strategy with the publics opinion also taken in mind. Also, regular track and train maintenance should be conducted to reduce the chances of such problems arising again. Customer Focus Surveys could be conducted to understand the customers xpectations and SMRT could work towards fulfilling them. The constant service disruptions have already caused the companys image to decline and to make sure that this does not happen in the future, SMRT could look into developing proper plans. Measurement, Analysis and Knowledge Management The lapses in information and data have also caused grave problems to the company and SMRT should invest in training existing and hiring new skilled employees to analyze and report field data. Workforce F ocus It is important to constantly monitor, motivate and rain the workforce. As a happy workforce is more efficient and can provide higher service quality that an unmotivated one. This would also increase service quality. Process Management Ensuring proper contingency, emergency and evacuation plans during service disruptions can help increase quality and reduce the risk to customers, time indirectly improving the image of the brand. Results Putting everything together, it is still important to get results and improve the customers image of the company while maintaining very high standards of service quality.

A Separate Peace: Destroyed Everything Essay

In the 1940s, World War II had a huge imp coif on the everyday lives of Ameri chamberpots. Many people had to sacrifice money, supplies, food and even lives to hold to the war effort. However, the characters in John Knowles A Separate Peace look to be sheltered from the influences of the multinational conflicts as a settlement of attending an all-boys boarding shoal. The novel focuses on the friendship between Finny and divisor, ii friends who bonded during the c arfree summer sessions at the Devon School. When the winter approaches, the students find themselves having to deal with stricter administration and rules. The new order and change magnitude impact of the war causes the students to stress and worry. In an effort to relieve the misery, Finny decides to organize a winter circus for the pupils. Although the festivities of the winter bazaar suggest that the boys own been successful in creating a separate peace, Knowles use of war imagery in describing the setting, pr izes, and the boys behavior suggests that this peace is illusory.Although the setting of the circus seems serene at first, a closer look at the descriptive language reveals that the Devon school day is in a war-like state. The beastly winter causes the students to have a depressing view of their school life. The despair that the cold weather has brought with it causes divisor to loathe winter, he comp ars it to a corruptconqueror whos presence has destroyed everything. In rancor of getting ready for a carnival, Gene lifelessness finds it hard to return to the pleasant mood that he had felt during the summer semester. The difference between winter and summer signify the difference between propagation of war and times of peace. Like the winter season, the war come out of the closets to demolish everything, including the speck of happiness. On the day of the festival, the students still cannot get rid of his glum attitude. Knowles describes the Saturday of the carnival to be b attleship gray. Through the use of foreshadowing, the antecedent reveals the tension among the boys. Even though the students manage to get along at first, the sullen weather hints to the brushing that will hit place later on.As the activities are taking place, Gene shows amazement at the fact that everyone appears to be so careless and unrestrained. The narrator relishs that the carnival had allowed the students to be liberated from the gray encroachments of 1943. The carnival permitted the students to have one day of freedom from the strict administrations at the school. However, Gene automati outcryy connects the warm feeling to the horrific war. He realizes that the lack of restraint on the students is only temporary they will in brief have to return back to their normal lives after the carnival. This is similar to the way the peaceful life at the Devon school is only for the time being, the boys will eventually have to face the reality of the war when they graduate. Despit e Finnys effort to recreate the lighthearted summer life by organizing the winter carnival, he is unsuccessful because the school is not the friendly haven it erstwhile was. The rewards offered at the winter carnival reflect the boys loss of honour as they struggle to become men.At school, the students are taught to prepare themselves to fight in the war. This is the reason wherefore one of the sought after prizes is a set of York barbells. It reveals the desires of the young men to serve their country. The teenagers all motivation to become great soldiers and to do so, they must start training as early as feasible. Knowles shows that the characters are growing up and are accepting of their future in the war. The winnings also exposes that the adolescents are no drawn-out the innocent kids they once were. A piece of hair cut under duress that once belonged to the professional town belle was placed on the prize table. The fact that the boys are after locks of hair from a prosti tute means that they are going done hormonal changes and are testosterone-driven. As a result of not knowing how to deal with these developments, the students resort to taking forceful actions to fulfill their desires.Genes classmate, Brinker goes through great lengths to get awards which include doing irresponsible things. However, he does not show remorse for these actions. Brinker places the money from the superiors Discretionary Benevolent Fund on the prize table with silent dignity. As the kids grow older, they begin to act unethically and show a disregard for authority. As they lose their innocence, their example compass also disintegrates. Although they are struggling to become adults, they end up acting immature and childish. The prizes appear to be normal on the surface but the deeper meaning reveals the teens malicious behavior. The normally well-behaved students act unruly and aggressively suggesting that they are taking on the demeanor of soldiers they are destined to become. During the planning of the carnival, the boys take on roles that parallel military positions. Brinker naturally played the part of the commander, he supervises the transfer and walks around bounteous orders to other students. The boys are acting more and more like soldiers as they grow older. When they get together, they mesh as if they were actually in the military. The violent nature of the boys becomes evident when Knowles points out that the designated trumpet player, Chet, blew the barbaric call of a bullfight. The author is comparing the students to bulls, both are wild and brutal. The boys are no longer civil and friendly with each other they have turned against their classmates. Like many real soldiers, the boys appear to be obsessed with violence and cannot contain their craving to fight. Though the carnival starts off good-naturedly and fun, it soon turns ugly when the cider-fueled boys show their savage behavior. They break apart into a riot and explode like a b omb. Despite Finnys intention of having a jovial carnival, they young men ruin this break by unexpectedly acting out. They could not hold back their destructive ways any longer, and the carnival gave them the perfect opportunity to break out. As it is in the war, peace at the Devon School is not possible and violence is inevitable. Chapter 9 ends with a telegram from Leper, a former student who had enlisted in the army, informing Gene that he has escaped from the military. This shocks the students back to reality as they come to the understanding that the war is real and that they are unprepared for such dangers. Using war-centered word choice, John Knowles makes it very clear that the feeling of peace that the characters feel is deceptive and short lived. Therefore, all the boys can do is wish for the war to end so they can find a real and permanent peace.

The Truth About Iraq May Be Elusive - establish ExampleWas the intelligence on Iraq deliberately corrupted or was there an administrative blunder that skewed the presentations? Was there an overall rush to war after 9/11 during which period the examine was snub in favor of groupthink? To answer these important questions, its necessary to examine the irregularities that surrounded 9/11 and the events that conduct up to the War in Iraq. We will find a pattern of mismanagement, deceit, and rationalization. The loudest and most convincing representative for going to war was based on the belief that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction (WMD). United Nations weapons inspectors had been in and out of Iraq on an irregular basis for the 10 years prior to the fall of 2002 and again secure months before the war. They had never found verifiable evidence of a WMD program. In November 2002 the UN team returned to Iraq headed by international expert Hans Blix. And he was not alone. General James Marks, in charge of ground intelligence had similar misgivings. When Rumsfeld was questioned about his uncertainty he later admitted that he was unsure. He said, I was very worried about it (Woodward 100). When asked if he was aware that a two star command named Spider Marks shared a similar concern about the lack of WMD evidence Rumsfeld replied, No. I mean, we dealt with the combatant commanders people. I whitethorn have met him, but I dont know him (Woodward 100). It may seem incredulous that in the fine tooth search for WMD, the Secretary of Defense had not talked to, and in item did not know, the General in charge of ground intelligence. To mislead the public on this critical equipment failure in communications would serve Rumsfeld no good purpose. We can only guess that the failure was cod to incompetence, indifference, or groupthink. While Rumsfeldss beliefs may have clouded his objectivity, the Niger uranium connection can not be so easily dismissed. During the State of the Union address in January 2003, Mr. pubic hair said to the nation, The British governance has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa (State of the Union take aim). However, the CIA had discredited this information as early as 2002 (Stein). Both the CIA and the State Department had voiced doubts about the authenticity of the documents. Yet, the information was included in the address to the public. Days before the war, the International Atomic brawniness Agency (IAEA) and the UN Security Council held that the documents were suspect and inaccurate. The FBI would later investigate them as forgeries (Getrz). In the days before the war, relation back raised concern over the issue of the Niger uranium connection. In a letter to President Bush dated March 17, 2003, Representative Henry Waxman wrote, In the last ten days, however, it has become incontrovertibly take a shit that a key piece of evidence you and other Administration officials have cited regarding Iraqs efforts to obtain nuclear weapons is a hoax. Because Waxman could see the wheels of war beginning to spin, he closed his letter with a sense of urgency, precondition the urgency of the situation, I would appreciate an expeditious response to these questions.. Honest leaders would have provided a ardent and honest reply. The Honorable Henry Waxman would have to wait a full six weeks. On April 29, 2003 he received a letter from a low level State Department employee. It said in part, Based on what appeared at the time
